Pleats and Red Chevron.

I've been meaning to show this off for a while now, but I haven't been able to decide on how to wear the outfit. I'm still not in love with the outfit, but it'll do for now.

I saw this super cute chevron skirt on pinterest and knew I had to have it.
I searched all over the internet and found a girl who makes them for $100.
Like, I'm sure she makes quality skirts
but wasn't about to pay that much for a skirt I could easily make myself.
(it pays to learn how to sew, people!)
So I found this neat tutorial from Melissa Esplin and gave it a try.

You should give it a try, but if you would rather me make it I can totally make you a chevron skirt. Just shoot me an email.
(it will not be $100)

button detail on the side of the skirt.

oh hello crazy hair!

On a different subject;
I went to San Francisco this Saturday to help my bestest friend and roomie for BYUH, Tiffany, find her wedding dress.
Her wedding is in October and I am sad to say she still hasn't found the dress!
It was so fun to catch up after 7 months of not seeing each other.
It really felt like we had never been apart and I loved that. :)
so, Yay for friendships and chevron skirts!

Guess Who is a District Leader Now?

I'm so proud of him I had to make a blog post about it. duh!
He's also going to be senior companion! Unfortunately, that means Elder Viloria is getting transferred. They both get along very well, but Joey is excited to serve with a new Elder.

Elder Ireland and Elder Viloria

Other missionaries and Joe.

I love Pdays...I love getting to email him and hearing about how hard he is working. He is such a hard worker and I am so proud that he is doing the Lord's work.
Yay missionaries!

Did you get good news from a missionary this week?

On Boomerang.

I've been watching so much Boomerang lately,
and just two weeks ago I found that they have the original Pokemon on at 3:30 PM.

I'm just really excited.

I am not ashamed to say that I grew up watching Pokemon and that I love it.
I seriously can't ever get sick of it. It's one of those really good childhood memories.

I remember when it was first announced on Cartoon Network and I though, "hey, this looks cool!"

well, anyway,
the point to this is that, I've been watching it a lot lately and it's made me miss Joey.

Because Joey loves Pokemon too, duh!
aren't we perfect for each other?
yes, yes we are.

Sometimes I miss sitting on the couch and watching cartoons with him.
But it's okay because we get to do that for all eternity when he comes home.
(someone tell me there is pokemon in heaven)

sorry there isn't much excitement on my blog this week,
I didn't really feel like taking pictures of myself ha.

Is there a special TV show from your childhood that you never get tired of watching?

DIY: Clip On BowTie

Hey everyone!
I had the opportunity to guest post over at Love, Caroline Blog today!
click here to learn how to make your own clip on bow tie :)

I know a lot of ladies wanted me to talk about making skirts, but don't worry! I have that planned for the future.

And I'll give you this confession...

To be completely honest, I really suck at writing letters to Elder Ireland.
I've gotten so comfortable with dearelder.com
and I always make excuses like, "I don't have money!" "I'm a poor college graduate"
blah blah bluh blah!

But seriously, it's just $1.10
he spends 13 pesos to send me letters.
and even though he misses weeks at a time
when I do get my letters they are worth the wait.

So I made a goal,
that I would write Elder Ireland
2 weeks out of the month
and the other 2 weeks would be dear elders.
That way he gets handwritten letters and gets a ton of dear elders, still.

He always tells me how all the other missionaries get so jealous cause I write him so many of those.
But I think they'd be even more jealous if he got a bunch of handwritten letters.
And I do enjoy the fact that my letter overload makes other missionaries jealous of mine (sorry not sorry) ;)

I've seen a lot of girls on my Instagram with cute envelope tutorials.
It makes me happy to see all the cute stuff MGs come up with for their missionaries.

But did you know I made a tutorial too?
I while ago, and you can find it here

And while you're making these super cute envelopes, give this song a listen. It inspired my post title.
and if you haven't noticed, I feel sassy today.

WOW. It has been 10 whole months since Joey has been out on the mission field. I can't believe it!

It's been a crazy month, and I am glad it's over.

I'm so excited for the next few months.

14 more months! :)

A few exciting thing and some pictures:

Next month, it'll be our FIVE YEAR anniversary. Yep, five.
and then in September it'll be one whole year since Joe has been gone.
I'm excited.
(can't you tell?)

Elder Viloria is Elder Ireland's companion. He is from Colombia.

This is a group of kids that Joey is teaching. They play soccer together every Monday.
Lastly, there is this newish band I really like. I think one of my favorite things is finding bands when they are nothing and then seeing them make it big. I don't like mainstream music, unless I liked it before it was mainstream and then it became mainstream.

I really loved this band called Sherwood, and was sure they were going to make it big. But last year, they broke up. And just like that, it was over.

The lead singer started a new band, called The Begging Sea and it's like having a mature Sherwood. I love it.

And this song reminds me of what waiting for a missionary is all about.

Chiffon Maxi Skirt

I wondered on to Melissa Esplin's blog via Pinterest (of course) and I found this neat tutorial.
I bought some chiffon fabric at DI for $3 a while ago and was wondering what I would do with it until I saw this.

I've never tried maxi skirts before.
They kind of scare me, to be honest.
I always thought it was a tall person thing,
and I am, uh, short.
A whooping 5'2"

But I wanted to give it a try.
I'm really sorry about my pictures haha. I am not photogenic.

I used this tutorial to make this super cute chiffon maxi skirt:

no shoes for life. Top: Forever 21

the zipper on the side makes my hips look weird.

What do you think?
What's a clothing item that scares you? haha or rather, whats something out of your comfort zone that you're willing to try? Doesn't have to be clothing related.

 Hello everyone!
I just wanted to take the time to introduce the newest member of my family. (haha)
if you follow me on instagram, or are my friend on facebook,
then you know we got a new dog.
His name is Toby
and he is a terrier mix.

He is a rescue dog and is about one year old.
We've had him for about 7 weeks now, but I had been so busy trying to get him used to our lifestyle that I hadn't written about him on here.
I thought, of course, he deserved his own post.

We all love him, except for our other dog Jake.
Jake's still wondering when Toby will leave. haha

Rescuing a dog is something that I have always wanted to do.
If you know me personally then you know that I really love dogs.
My heart breaks every time I see an abandoned or beaten dog on television or on the streets.
(That's why I always have a hard time in Peru, there are so many stray dogs).

This became somewhat of a personal goal.
So when we saw a picture of Toby, scared in a corner, I knew I had to go get him and I knew that my family and I could give him the life he deserved.

This is the first picture we saw of Toby

He is still a little shy and very attached to me, which are signs that he was beaten before.

But he is happy.

He has so much energy and so much love to give.

So the next time you are thinking of adding a new doggy member to your family,
Please adopt, don't shop.

You have no idea how much you will help a dog.
You might not think it makes a difference, but to that dog, it makes all the difference in the world.

Here are some pictures of happy Toby

If anyone wants to make a button, I made mine here. It was super easy. It pretty much does it for you (I finally decided to try this after failing at making my own code.)

With that being said, does anyone want to swap buttons? I'd love to have your button on my blog. If you are interested send me a quick message at mariaasews@gmail.com with your blog so we can swap! Yay!

Mint Scallops and Giveaway Winner.

I am so excited to finally show off this skirt! I have been working on it for so long and I just love the way it turned out.

I first saw the mint scalloped skirt here. I love the color mint and I love scallops, so when I found this fabric, I knew what I would do with it right away.

I didn't even notice that she had a tutorial so I went ahead and did it without instructions, just out of my imagination and it actually turned out good, but unfortunately, I cut the skirt too small so it wasn't going to fit my hips.

I left the skirt alone for a while and then attempted it again using her tutorial (which turned out to be the exact same technique I had come up with! yay me!)

I left out my face because I'm not photogenic. OH, and it scallops all the way around.

It is seriously so cute. I want to scallop my whole closet. okay, maybe not, but it's such an adorable skirt! I am so happy I can finally wear it, I've been waiting for ever to finish it and wear it.

Also! the winner of the chevron necktie is comment number 4 which is
Sara Gines.
yay! Sara, please email me your address at mariaasews@gmail.com

I hate that I can't give everyone a free tie, but the fabric is kind of expensive ha. But if you really want one you can go to my etsy shop. They are handmade. By my little hands. :) I am doing a $3 off sale (neckties only) until July 16th.
Use the code: JULYNECKTIE
