Red Retro Dress!

Well, here it is!
I am so excited to finally show this dress off! Probably because I spent a whole week working on it.
It was my first Pattern by Gertie (one of my favorite sewing bloggers) and it was a difficult pattern. I messed up a lot and eventually I got so frustrated with it that I had to put it down for a week.
After working really hard and trying to fix it to make it a little more modest...I'm excited to say that I am loving it!
It didn't come out super perfect, but you can barely see the imperfections. And I am okay with that!
I love this pattern because it gives sort of a retro look, and I love retro. I have a bunch of retro inspired patterns that I want to start making. Just gotta find the perfect fabric!

Sorry about the super weird pictures. I'm still not photogenic, doubt I'll ever be. I made this dress using Butterick's B5814.

What do you think? Also, listen to this song, Red Dress by Motion City Soundtrack.

Eight Months

What? Is this for reals? Eight months already?

This month seriously flew by. I swear we were just at seven months two days ago.  It's never gone by this fast! How exciting!

This past month, Elder Ireland had transfers. He stayed in Lavalle but he has a new companion. Elder Taylor. Joe was bummed that Elder E Silva had to leave, but he was excited to have a new companion. I love Joe's enthusiasm. He is always ready to serve wherever and with whoever. He
loves the Gospel and he really loves serving. I am super proud of him. Here's to the next sixteen months!

DIY: Pretty Envelopes!

As a missionary girlfriend, I am always thinking of the little things I can do to brighten up my missionary's day. And this is why pretty envelopes are such a good idea! They just make everyone happy!

I thought of this before he left on his mission and I thought I was so cool for making super cute envelopes for my boyfriend, but then I discovered that I wasn't cool, and that I really need to stop thinking I'm cool, and that others have already done this and written about this subject many times before. But here I am, about to write about it again.

You will need:
  • Scissors
  • Papers (you can buy a thing of scrapbook papers or if you go here, here, here, and here, you will find a variety of downloadable papers, just make sure you have a color ink cartridge in your printer!)
  • An envelope of your choice (or if you go here you can get an envelope template plus some cute papers! and you can use this template for other pretty envelopes, you can also go here and use this cute envelope as a template)
  • Glue stick!
  • Ruler!

first you gotta pick your template and your paper

trace over the paper!

cut out, fold and glue sides!

Now you are ready to send your missionary (or anyone else) super cute envelopes! How Adorable are these? :)
BTW: if you have an iPhone, you should really download A Beautiful Mess' new app. I'm obsessed! Get it here.

Ties, Lately...

I'm sorry I have been MIA. I feel like I've been saying that to people a lot lately, but I have been occupied. I still have that red dress I need to take pictures of...I'll get to it. I promise. But for now, here are some more ties I've worked on these past few weeks.

The super cute 4th of July tie. I made it for my brothers, my mish, and for a lovely lady that wanted some for her missionary. I just think it's adorable :)
The next three ties were special request for some lovely ladies. I love the last two and I am thinking of making Joey some similar ones :)

Ties, lately...

Here are some of the ties I've been working on these past few weeks.

First, it's the tie I made for my little brother Ivan. He is in a little league baseball team, so when my mom and I saw this fabric, we thought it'd be perfect! He loves it, and I love how it turned out :)

I made my little brothers matching Peruvian fabric ties (some other projects with this same fabric found here and here). I didn't have enough to make the lines horizontal so I made the ties with the stripes vertically and then it turned out crooked! lame! But it's okay, because they love their ties. :)

I really love the fabric for this tie. I actually made this tie and sold it to someone. I have more of this fabric if someone is interested in buying a tie similar to this one! I really loved how it turned out. It was one of the nicer ties I've made (probably because it was going to be sold haha)

Knit Top

This top was actually the very first top I attemped to make. I made it way before this and this and I have no idea why I am just now posting it. haha

This was super easy to make. All I did was put two pieces of fabric right sides together and marked it and then sewed. You can use your favorite shirt to figure out length and width.

I love this top because it's super flowy and comfy! Here are some pictures :)

Here's a mirror picture I took of it when I first made it. I didn't feel like taking actual pictures. And btw, I love my green pants.

Yeah, that's about it. haha.

Gathered Skirt #2

I made this skirt with the help of my landlord's sewing machine back when I lived in Laie, HI. So many good memories from my time in Hawaii, but that's a story for another time.

Anyway, my mom sent me this beautiful fabric and I was planning on making a gathered skirt with buttons in the front, but then I changed my mind and instead made this:

These are perhaps my favorite skirts to make because they are so easy to make! And just look at how cute it looks! It has an invisible zipper down the back (zippers suck, I'm particularity proud of how good this one turned out). Anyway, I hope you like my little creation. I made it without a pattern. :)
